Kim and Mat's Fertility Journey
told by: Kim

Mathew and I met in the summer of 2013. He had been who I was waiting for, for a very long time. It was very quickly that I realized I had just met my best friend. It was like talking to and looking at someone that I had known for a million years. We found close connection instantly and it was a rare moment that we would spent time apart. My daughter Ava, age 10 at the time, was very receptive to him and we became a unit just like that. At this point in time, I had already known that I struggled with infertility. It was within a month of dating Mat that my doctor told me that IVF would be my only option if I wanted any more children. I had this fear that Mat would leave based on knowing that. Why would he want to stay with me, knowing that this would be a struggle? He didn’t leave. He stayed and he let me cry about it. That was yet another clue that he was my best friend for life.
It wasn’t until 2016 when we started having actual discussions about having children. There were so many questions—how do we start, where do we start, how will we pay for all of this? I researched the IVF process, the cost of it, the odds of success, everything you could think of…I Googled it. It was a random moment of browsing Facebook and a suggested page popped up on my feed. Bundled Blessings, a new non-profit agency was accepting applications for their first ever grant give-away. I disregarded it for a while—nobody ever wins those things, definitely not me. But I kept thinking about it, and then I brought it up to Mat. I asked him, “Should we fill out this grant paperwork? It could be a serious step in the direction of babies.” He simply said yes, yet another reason why I love him so much.
In November of 2016 we were so lucky to be awarded one of the grants from Bundled Blessings. What a moment that was when our names were called. I had several friends and family members there to support me for which I am so thankful for. This was the kick start that we needed. We made an appointment very soon after to get these going.
We are happy to include that we are due in December of 2017. What a journey it has been. We are all so happy about the good things to come. Ava is so excited to be a big sister and Mat will be getting a son very soon. The numerous blood draws, ultrasounds, daily injections, mood changes, and stress have all been worth it. I am so grateful to have such good support from friends and family. I am also so grateful for Bundled Blessings, they are such an inspiration and source of support.
